05.22.2026 Trauma & Safety, Part I: Foundations for Sustainable Practice
Trauma & Safety, Part I: Foundations for Sustainable Practice invites counselors to move beyond a scattered, skills-based understanding of “trauma-informed care” toward a more integrated, intentional framework. Participants will explore trauma at both individual and community levels, while examining how vicarious trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue shape the helping professions themselves. Professional practice strategies for addressing both trauma and safety will be provided, highlighting communal pathways to recovery and the growing research on community trauma and transmission. Building on this foundation, the retreat component—Trauma & Safety, Part II: Embodying Sustainable Practice—shifts into lived application, identifying and engaging in practices for both self-care of the practitioner as well as clinical application with clientele. Together, these sessions emphasize that sustainable practice requires not only clinical knowledge but also a deep commitment to safety, embodiment, and collective healing.
Participants can register for either workshop independently (participation in Part I is NOT required for participation in Part II).
